When I finally realize how long it’s been since I’ve stood up, my upper body is super tight and my mind is exhausted the rest of the day. I do try to change things up as much as I can when I'm working to give my body a break luckily I have 3 dogs and a toddler to remind me to get up and move often.īut even with a toddler, 3 dogs, and my office being at Island Yoga or at home, I can still get wrapped up in computer work for hours on end. Like many of you, I spend lots of time sitting in front of a computer. I admit, I’ve been that person more times than I could count! There’s no shame in practicing your handstands in the middle of the grocery store - or is that just me? Through my yoga teaching, I have seen the lasting benefits of the practice for people with developmental and neurological differences, and the profound impact on communication and connection. When your job makes you sit for long hours, and there’s no space for a yoga mat at your desk.what’s a yogi to do? Try my 5 favorite (and discrete) office yoga poses. Yoga can connect us with our inner nature, and can support our deep connection with the world around us.Īs well as teaching yoga, I work as a speech and language therapist and I specialise in working with children and young people with autism. These principles guide my own life and I love sharing this wisdom with others. Although rooted in ancient India, the philosophical aspects of the practice continue to be relevant for us today. Yoga can inform and guide the way we live our lives off the mat. I teach trauma-informed yoga and strive to make my classes accessible to all. But yoga can also be about also playing and having fun. Through a regular practice, yoga can help us cultivate more awareness and presence in our lives, and we can experience deep changes in our mind and body. I believe yoga can be a deeply healing practice. Yoga can be a powerful tool to support our physical, mental, and emotional health. Yoga isn’t about how you look in a pose, but what you feel. I have long been fascinated by the mind and the body (having studied anatomy, physiology, and neurology in college), and love reading how scientific research applies to yoga and mindfulness but I also have a deep interest yoga philosophy and subtle anatomy. I am always learning and I see this as an essential part of my own practice and teaching. I have also stepped outside the yoga world to become certified as a Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist (FRCms). In 2018/2019, I completed the Modern Yoga Certification Course (300hr) with the inspiring Brea Johnson and Kat Boehm of Heart + Bones Yoga, which has had a profound impact on my practice and teaching. I have training in trauma and my teaching is informed by this. My foundational Hatha yoga training was in India in January 2016 with Arhanta Yoga, and since then I have attended countless workshops and completed training and certification in Vinyasa Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Yoga Nidra. My introduction to yoga was through the physical practice but I soon dived into the rich philosophical tradition of yoga. Over time I became stronger and more flexible - physically, mentally, and emotionally. I enjoyed the physicality of the practice, as well as the chance to get out of my head and into my body through movement and breathing. I have been practicing yoga for more than a decade, and from my first class I loved it.
